Enoch Memela, Emmanuel Mbuyazi and John Swithenbank founded Ascent in 2002, primarily to service a dry mining contract on behalf of Richards Bay Minerals (RBM).
The company has achieved considerable growth in the years that followed, and currently operates three mining sections on behalf of RBM. From an original workforce of 32 people in 2002, Ascent has achieved considerable job creation, with a current workforce of 103 people.
Since the formation of Ascent Mining Services in 2002, the company has acquired four additional operating divisions: Ascent Management Services, Ascent Maintenance Services, Ascent Marine Services and Ascent Mechanical Services.
Each of these operating divisions was acquired with a view to providing expert technical support services not only to the company’s internal operations, but also to meet the needs of local industries.
Ascent is committed to achieving sustainable development. The company consistently invests in its skills base and training interventions to ensure capacity building and economic upliftment of its own workforce and in the local communities within which it operates.
